About FilmFind

FilmFind is an ongoing project designed by Chad Tomas. Combining aspects of social networking, databases, and wikis, FilmFind is a movie database search site that also allows registered users to add and edit new entries into the database. Registered users can also add reviews to movies they've seen and create and share lists of their favorite actors and movies.

History and Technologies of FilmFind

FilmFind originally started as a database class final project in the spring of 2010 that was originally called "Who's In...?" with a slogan of, "Yup, she's in that movie". "Who's In...?" at the time was only available on a localhost and did not include user login functionality. The project allowed the user CRUD capabilities and featured 26 movies and 160+ actors. "Who's In...?" was written using JSP to access an Oracle SQL database.

A year later, Chad decided to redo the project to brush up on HTML/CSS. FilmFind uses the original data from its previous incarnation and more while adding user capabilities to the site, which is where we are now. At the opening of FilmFind, the database featured 87 movies and 365 actors. FilmFind was written in PHP/MySQL, with a small hint of JavaScript and jQuery.

The project took a total of five weeks to complete, including coming up with the concept, producing graphics, drawing up entity relationship digrams, coding, more coding, and endless hours of debugging.
